Stingers Have Strong Opening Game

The Stingers in the South Coastal Hockey League Legends division had trouble putting the puck in the net. However, the Stingers might have found their scoring touch in their opening game. They had five different goal scorers in their 5-1 win over the defending champion Crusaders in their opening game.

Norwell's Joe Murray, Peter MacPherson of Hanover and Pembroke's Dave Christensen scored the first three goals of the game to give the Stingers a 3-0 lead after a period. Steve Lemish of Pembroke and Chris Poudrier also scored and Peter Tambrorella also of Pembroke had two assists for the Stingers in the game. Rocco Carlino, from Eric Jacobson of Rockland and Gerry Caron scored for the Crusaders.
The Fighting Saints scored four straight goals, which included two by John Thoms as they rallied for a 5-2 Legends division win over the Toros.

Paul Murphy and Mike Ryan also scored for the Saints in the four goal run. Bill Spillane, who also had an assist in the game added an empty net goal, while Tom Shaughnessy of Hanover, Jon Graham and James McNeill had an assist each for the Saints. Pembroke's John Holmes had a goal and an assist for the Toros. Norwell's James Ward added a goal and Paul Brinkmann had two assists in the game for the Toros. |
