We're Back!

   It may be a new season for the South Coastal Men's Hockey League, but some things remained the same.

Maple Leafs' Andy Pelley makes a save in his  5-4 victory

The Maple Leafs, in the Classics division, continued their domination of the Canadiens. They built a 5-2 lead and hung on for an opening game,
 5-4 victory. The Leafs have not lost to the Canadiens in their last 23  meetings. Mike Maher of Marshfield scored two goals including a power play goal with 10:29 left in the game that put the Maple Leafs up 5-2. Pembroke's Jim Smith added a goal and an assist, while Sean Malloy and Jack Carrigg of Marshfield had a goal each. Mike Bartlett, Jeff Gauthier, Steve Mudge and Dave Denton (both of Marshfield) added an assist each. The Canadiens had four different goal scorers. Pembroke's Mike Fahie and Mike Martin, Marshfield's Glen Harnisch and Mike Fay had a goal each for the Canadiens. Steve Berlo of Pembroke had two assists, Martin, Tom Lema of Marshfield, Sean Keegan (also of Pembroke) and Mike Evans added an assist apiece for the Canadiens.
   Tim Cruz of Marshfield scored two second period goals five minutes apart as the Sharks opened up Legends' division play with a 5-0 win over the Whalers. It was the fourth straight win for the Sharks over the Whalers. Barry Kaiser and Rick Kelly of Hanover combined to stop 18 shots for the shutout for the Sharks. Jay Faherty had a goal and an assist, Marshfield's Richard Petrosino and Mike Valenti both had a goal for the Sharks, who put the game away with three third period goals.

Next Week

The Classics division will have two games on Sunday at the Hobomock Arena in Pembroke. The defending champion Black Hawks will face the Bruins, while the Rangers will take on the Red Wings. The Wings game with the Rangers will start at 7:30 P.M. and the Black Hawks-Bruins game will follow at 8:50.
