Stingers and Rangers Are Winter 2013 Champions

The last shall be first in the Legends Division of the South Coastal Men's Hockey League. The Stingers, who were the only team in either division not to win a title, were able to pull out a 3-1 win over the Toros to win the Legends Division Winter title.

The Classics Division saw the Rangers, who finished in last place in the league in the Fall, put together a strong offense in the Winter season. They led both divisions in scoring and rolled to a 6-1 win over the Bruins in the Classics Division title game.

Scott Kelly of Pembroke scored twice in the final 3:42 of the game including an empty-net goal to lead the
Stingers to its 3-1 championship game win. Chris Poudrier assisted on both of the goals by Kelly. Hanover's Peter MacPherson scored an unassisted goal to give the Stingers the first goal of the game in the second period.

Joe Spangenberger of Scituate tied the game with a wrist shot and goalie Ken Menkello had 26 saves in the game for the Toros.
Jim Hutchinson scored two goals including a first period power play goal as the Rangers rolled to a 6-1 win over the Bruins in the Classics Division final.

Lou Sideropoulos had a goal with two assists and John Sances added a goal and an assist each for the Rangers, who scored the first five goals of the game. Joe O'Connell and Hanover's Jay Parker added a goal each in the win. Lawrence Healy scored a power play goal for the Bruins with 1:07 left in the game. |
