Whalers Suffer First Loss
Classics Division in Three-Way Tie for Fourth

The last two champions in the South Coastal Men's Hockey League's Classic division staged a terrific battle this past Sunday. Jim Martin of Hanover tipped in a Mike Martin pass with 2:12 left to tie the game, 1-1 and John Tympanick scored the only goal of the shoot out to give the Bruins a 2-1 come-from-behind win over the Black Hawks. Bruce Humfryes scored to give the Black Hawks a 1-0 lead in the second period. Pembroke's goalie Jim Stone had 23 saves for the Bruins and the Black Hawks' Gary Whear stopped 19 shots.
Bob Sideropoulos scored the only goal of the shoot-out to give the Rangers a 2-1 victory over the Red Wings. Mike Crisp scored for the Rangers and Scott Varley scored for the Red Wings in regulation.
Shawn Malloy scored a goal and assisted on another and goalie Andy Pelly of Hanover registered the shut-out as the Maple Leafs defeated the Canadiens, 3-0. Mike Bartlett of Pembroke and Marshfield's Steve Mudge were the other goal scorers for the Leafs.

Jim Callahan scored his second goal of the game with 1:47 left on the power play to snap a 2-2 tie and give the Saints a 3-2 Legends division win over the Toros. Callahan set up a Jon Graham goal in the second period for the Saints to tie the game, 2-2. Peter Cleary of Pembroke and Paul Brinkmann scored for the Toros to give them a 2-0 lead.

Tim Cruz of Marshfield scored two goals and Mike Zucarelli added a goal and an assist as the Sharks dealt the Whalers their first Legends division loss by a 5-2 score. Jay Faherty and Mike Valenti of Marshfield each added a goal and Norwell's Fred Bickford had two assists for the Sharks. Norwell's Mike Rober had a goal and an assist and Kevin Mackin of Duxbury scored a goal for the Whalers.

Pembroke's Steve Lemish scored two goals and Hanover's Jay Kavanah added a goal and an assist in the Stingers 4-1 win over the Crusaders in a Legends division game. Paul Smyth added a goal and Norwell's Joe Murray had two assists for the Stingers in the game. Duxbury's Brian Murphy scored for the Crusaders. |
